Naomi Osaka set for comeback at Brisbane international after maternity break

Posted : 10 November 2023
Tennis star Naomi Osaka is set to make her comeback at the Brisbane International in December, returning to the WTA Tour six months after giving birth to her daughter. Having last competed at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo in September 2022, Osaka expressed her excitement, aiming for a strong comeback during the tournament. She emphasized her eagerness to begin her season in Brisbane, acknowledging the event's significance in setting the stage for her return to professional tennis.

The Brisbane International, a pivotal event leading up to the 2024 Australian Open, is where Osaka aims to kickstart her return to the competitive circuit. Known for her previous triumphs, including winning the Australian Open in 2021, the tennis sensation is set to mark her presence after a hiatus that involved addressing mental health concerns, leading to breaks from the sport. Osaka's candid discussions about her mental health battles have been widely publicized, showcasing her openness about these challenges.

In addition to Osaka's anticipated return, the Brisbane International has also confirmed the participation of two-time winner Andy Murray in the 2024 tournament. Murray expressed his excitement, looking forward to returning to Queensland and aiming for another title after his previous victories in 2012 and 2013. The upcoming Brisbane International tournament serves as a precursor to the Australian Open, set to commence on Sunday, January 14.
