Naomi Osaka is preparing for a highly anticipated showdown against Coco Gauff in the last 16 of the China Open on Monday, following her convincing victory over Katie Volynets. Osaka, who is currently ranked 73rd in the world, defeated the 60th-ranked American player with a score of 6-3, 6-2. The upcoming match between the former US Open champions promises to be a thrilling encounter, highlighting their shared history of success on the court.

 

World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka also advanced in the tournament with a dominant performance, defeating Ashlyn Krueger 6-2, 6-2, marking her 14th consecutive win. She will face another American, Madison Keys, in her next match. Sabalenka, known for her aggressive style, expressed her focus on emotional control during matches, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive mindset while competing.

 

Looking ahead to her match against Gauff, Osaka acknowledged the athleticism of her opponent, stating that the battle would likely revolve around who could take control of the points. The four-time Grand Slam champion has recently started working with Patrick Mouratoglou, a renowned coach best known for his tenure with Serena Williams. Osaka has won two majors each at the US Open and Australian Open and is aiming to regain her form on the hard courts in Beijing, where she has previously enjoyed success.

 

Coco Gauff, the reigning US Open champion, secured her spot in the last 16 with a solid 7-5, 6-2 win over Katie Boulter. Gauff, who is seeded fourth in the tournament, has a 2-2 record against Osaka in their previous encounters, with their last meeting resulting in a victory for Gauff in 2022. Meanwhile, Sabalenka, who has been performing well on hard courts, aims to continue her winning streak, having secured the majority of her titles on this surface.
