Miomir Kecmanovic staged a remarkable comeback on Sunday to defeat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the final of the Delray Beach Open, securing his second ATP title. The Serbian, who had been down a break at 5-2 in the third set, saved two match points in a tense eighth game.
On the first match point, Davidovich narrowly missed a forehand, and on the second, Kecmanovic benefited from the net cord, hitting a volley winner to stay alive in the match.
Kecmanovic’s resilience turned the tide, as he won five consecutive games to seize control. Davidovich, in search of his first career title, had a chance to break Kecmanovic’s serve in the final game but was unable to convert.
Despite a missed match point from Kecmanovic, the Spaniard faltered again, hitting another forehand long on Kecmanovic's second opportunity to close out the match.
The victory marked Kecmanovic's second career title, following his 2020 win in Kitzbuhel. With this triumph, he will break into the ATP top 50 for the first time since August, improving his ranking from 56th to a higher position when the new rankings are released on Monday.
For Davidovich, it was a heartbreaking conclusion to a strong tournament, as the Spaniard had previously ousted Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals and was aiming for his maiden title.
