Miami Open 2023 Marks Daniil Medvedev’s Fourth Trophy Wins
Posted : 12 April 2023
The 27-year-old Daniil Medvedev has now dropped just one game in five competitions, to Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells. He continued his incredible run by defeating Jannik Sinner in Miami in straight sets to earn his fourth title of the year.
With a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev maintained his incredible form to win the Miami Open for the first time.
"I'm really happy. Today was a tough match. It was probably the hottest day and the most humid during the day," Medvedev said.
"It was not easy conditions. I don't know if Jannik had a small injury or cramp. I was also struggling, tried not to show it.
"I haven't won such a big title in probably a year and a half," he added, not having tasted Masters 1000 glory since he won Toronto in 2021. “At the end I was quite shaky.”
Medvedev triumphed over Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final two weeks ago to reach his seventh ATP Tour final in as many events at the Miami Open.
This time, the world No. 5 easily defeated Sinner, who was miffed by Medvedev's simplistic style.
After Sinner generated five break points in the fifth game of set one, Medvedev did not encounter another one throughout the rest of the match. He also faced minimal resistance as he served his way to victory, completing the triumph in one hour and 34 minutes.
After taking the opening set 7-5, Medvedev won the second 6-3 to claim his fourth championship in five matches.
The Russian is currently 6-0 versus Sinner and has won five matches in a row 24-1.
