Medvedev, the top seed at the Erste Bank Open, had to battle his way into the second round in front of a packed Wiener Stadthalle. He faced a strong start from Dimitrov, who convincingly won the first set 6-3. In the second set, Medvedev adjusted his tactics, opting for a more controlled and safe approach to his game. This change in strategy proved successful, as he secured the set with two breaks.
The third set saw a tight battle, with both players holding their service initially. However, Medvedev managed to secure a crucial break and confidently served out the match. Medvedev now holds a 3-0 record against Dimitrov when playing indoors and advanced to the quarterfinals, where he is set to face Karen Khachanov.
