Lilian Bardet secures spot in WTT Contender Zagreb 2023, aiming for career-best win

On the final day of qualifying at WTT Contender Zagreb 2023, world No. 130 Lilian Bardet secured a spot in the main draw with a thrilling 3-2 victory over world No. 119 Cho Daeseong (14-12, 5-11, 13-15, 16-14, 11-9) at Dom Sportova on June 28. Bardet, coming off a career-best win against world No. 60 Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, was on the verge of reaching the Men's Singles main draw.
In the fourth qualifying round, Bardet faced Cho for the first time. The match was filled with twists and turns from the beginning, with both players having game point opportunities in a frantic opener.
Bardet managed to hold a slight advantage, but Cho responded strongly, winning the second game convincingly. Despite Bardet's efforts to save multiple game points, he couldn't salvage the third game and found himself trailing 1-2.
Bardet displayed great resilience when facing two match points against him in the fourth game. Refusing to give up, he fought back courageously, saving the game and ultimately taking the lead in the decider to secure qualification for the Men's Singles main draw.
This marks Bardet's first appearance in the WTT Series stage main draw. He is set to face world No. 54 Sharath Kamal Achanta in the round of 32.
In the Women's Singles qualifying, world No. 116 Sutirtha Mukherjee made headlines with a stunning 3-2 victory (1-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9) over world No. 71 Zhu Chengzhu, saving a match point in the third game.
Mukherjee's impressive performance earned her a place in the main draw. She will now face world No. 84 Yang Ha Eun in the round of 32.
