Katie Boulter won her first WTA title by defeating Jodie Burrage

Posted : 18 June 2023
Katie Boulter claimed her inaugural WTA title with an impressive display against Jodie Burrage in the final of the Nottingham tournament, marking the first all-British tour-level final in 46 years.

Not only did Boulter secure the championship, but she also had the opportunity to claim the British women's number one ranking, which she accomplished by outplaying her close friend in a 6-3 6-3 victory.

Expressing her joy and excitement, Boulter declared during her on-court interview, "I'm definitely going to be sleeping with this trophy tonight."

Earlier in the tournament, Andy Murray emerged victorious in the men's event, further boosting the confidence of British players ahead of the upcoming Wimbledon tournament.

The Boulter-Burrage final held historical significance as the first all-British WTA final since Sue Barker defeated Virginia Wade in San Francisco on February 28, 1977.

Both Boulter and Burrage displayed exceptional performances throughout the week in Nottingham, making their first appearances in WTA finals. However, it was Boulter who seized control of the match from the outset.
