Katie Boulter has been eliminated from the Wuhan Open following a straight-set loss to Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko. The British number one suffered a defeat with a scoreline of 6-2, 7-5 in the opening round against the world number 96.
The first set was tumultuous, as Boulter fell behind 3-0 early on, leading to six breaks of serve, five of which occurred consecutively. Tsurenko managed to claim the set in just 43 minutes, capitalizing on Boulter’s struggles to maintain her serve.
The second set saw a more competitive battle, with Tsurenko breaking Boulter's serve in the 11th game, ultimately securing her victory by holding serve. Tsurenko is set to face Poland's Magda Linette next, who advanced after defeating 11th seed Liudmila Samsonova 6-2, 6-2.
