British number one Katie Boulter has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open following a straight-sets victory over China’s Wang Xiyu. In a match lasting two hours and 15 minutes, the 28-year-old Boulter secured the win with a score of 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, as she aims for her third title of the year.
Boulter, the tournament's second seed, faced a tough challenge in the first set, which required a tie-break to clinch. However, she displayed greater control in the second set against her opponent, who is ranked 100th in the world. After the match, Boulter praised Wang’s skills, stating, "Wang is an incredible opponent and she never lets up. She is so talented and full credit to her."
Currently ranked 29th globally, Boulter has had a successful season, winning her first WTA 500 title in San Diego in March and defending her title at the Nottingham Open in June. Looking ahead, she is set to compete against either Varvara Gracheva or Anastasia Zakharova on Friday for a chance to reach the semi-finals.
