Jack Draper delivered a dominant performance in his first clay-court match of the season at the Monte Carlo Masters, cruising into the third round with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over American Marcos Giron.
The win, which took just 61 minutes, equaled his best result at a clay-court ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
Draper, who is now ranked world number six, has enjoyed a strong start to the year, including a title at Indian Wells in March, and aims to build on that momentum.
Despite past struggles on clay, Draper was in excellent form against Giron, hitting five aces and 21 winners compared to his opponent's nine.
After a brief challenge early in the match, where he saved a couple of break points in the third game, Draper raced ahead by winning five straight games to take the first set.
He continued his relentless attack in the second set, closing out the match with another five-game streak, sealing a comprehensive victory.
Draper acknowledged the tough conditions on the Monte Carlo courts but was pleased with his ability to adapt. "I feel like I have been transitioning well to the clay," he said in a post-match interview.
He credited his improvement on the surface to his focused training, particularly on using his forehand effectively, and expressed optimism about his chances for a strong run in the tournament.
In other notable matches, Matteo Berrettini staged a comeback to defeat Alexander Zverev in a three-set battle.
Zverev had dominated the opening set but couldn't maintain his form, with Berrettini breaking his serve multiple times in the final two sets to claim victory.
Meanwhile, defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame Australian Jordan Thompson, bouncing back from a set down to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win.
