Italian Open: Holger Rune beats Alexi Popyrin, Novak Djokovic next in matchup

In less than three hours, Holger Rune defeated Alexei Popyrin of Australia to go to the quarterfinals of the Italian Open.
The No. 7 seed defeated qualifier Popyrin with an assured performance to go to the next round and face Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic defeated Cameron Norrie of Great Britain earlier in the day in a heated match to go to the quarterfinals for the 17th consecutive year.
Rune took the lead in the match after breaking the court early in the first set to go up 3-1. Despite facing two break points at 3-2, he managed to save both and keep his ground.
The second set was close throughout, but Popyrin took control at the very end and converted a set point to break the Rune serve.
Rune called for a medical trainer when he was down 4-6 7-5 2-1 and looked to be experiencing eyesight problems.
