Iga Swiatek Prepares to Return to Tennis After Withdrawing from Miami And the Billie Jean King Cup

Posted : 18 April 2023
It's clay season, which on the WTA Tour means it's Iga Swiatek season if 2023 is anything like 2022. Last year, Swiatek was unbeatable while winning Stuttgart, Rome, and the French Open on the dirt.

Over the next two months, it is anticipated that the Pole will once again be the player to beat, however a rib ailment that prevented her from competing in the Miami
Open would offer the opposition a chance to reduce the gap.

The WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where Swiatek will be the reigning champion, appears to be where she will make her comeback.
The competition begins on April 17, which is over a month after Swiatek's most recent match, in which she was defeated by Elena Rybakina in the Indian Wells semifinals.

Swiatek has since been recovering from a rib injury that forced her to pull out of the Miami Open and also the Billie Jean King Cup with Poland.
“It was a very difficult decision to make, but I have no doubts that health is the most important,” said the world No. 1 about her withdrawal.
“Unfortunately, I'm still feeling a lot of pain and I can't compete. I need to take a break to recover and I have to pull out of the Miami Open and Billie Jean King Cup.
"I will keep you updated about where I play next because it depends on my process of recovering and the recommendation of my medical team. I have the best team behind me, we only need some time to deal with the injury.”

Although Swiatek has not formally declared she would compete in Stuttgart, she appeared to imply as much during a conversation with Mikaela Shiffrin on Instagram.
"I'm getting ready," she said when Shiffrin asked about getting back on the court.

The world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, who finished second last year, Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, Emma Raducanu, and Ryabkina will be in the field if Swiatek decides to compete.
