Iga Swiatek Parts Ways with Coach Tomasz Wiktorowski

Posted : 04 October 2024

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is on the lookout for a new coach after parting ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski, with whom she collaborated for three successful seasons. Wiktorowski joined Swiatek's coaching team in 2022, when she had already achieved one Grand Slam title. Under his guidance, Swiatek secured four additional Grand Slam victories, including three consecutive French Open titles.

Wiktorowski played a significant role in Swiatek's ascent to becoming the first Polish player to reach the top of the WTA rankings in April 2022. Throughout her career, she has spent a remarkable 123 weeks as the world's top-ranked player. In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Swiatek expressed her gratitude, stating, "After three years of the greatest achievements in my career, together with my coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, we decided to part ways. I want to start with a big thank you and appreciate our work together."

Swiatek acknowledged Wiktorowski's impact on her career, highlighting his experience and strategic mindset as key factors in their successes. She noted that his vast knowledge of tennis helped them achieve remarkable feats that she had never imagined possible at the start of their partnership. While she has begun preliminary discussions with potential new coaches, Swiatek plans to take a couple of weeks before finalizing her next appointment.

Currently, Swiatek is not competing in the ongoing China Open due to personal matters, having withdrawn from the tournament prior to its start. The 23-year-old had a stellar debut season with Wiktorowski, winning both the French Open and US Open, and she achieved a remarkable 37-match winning streak in 2022, the longest for a woman in this century. However, Swiatek expressed disappointment with her hard-court performances this season, as she exited the Australian Open in the third round and the US Open in the quarter-finals.
