Holger Rune wins to set quarter-final match against Casper Ruud
Posted : 06 June 2023
No. 6 seed Holger Rune survived a flawed and eventful five-set thriller with Francisco Cerundro to set up an All-Scandinavian French Open quarterfinal against Casper Ruud.
The 20-year-old Rune overcame dizziness and 73 unforced errors, but won in just over four hours, aided by a key referee's double-bound decision.
Ruud also had to work hard to beat Nicola Jarry 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 7-5.
The 24-year-old, the 2022 Roland Garros runner-up, was put to the test by the unseeded Chilean in 3 hours and 22 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier.
But that was nothing compared to the ordeal Rune had to endure enroute to a rematch with the man who defeated him in the quarterfinals last year.
