Gaston Upsets de Minaur to Reach Antwerp Semifinals

Hugo Gaston achieved a major milestone by defeating world number nine Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals of the Antwerp ATP tournament, marking his first-ever top 10 victory. The Frenchman, ranked 77th, battled through three sets to secure the win, with a final score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. This victory was Gaston’s second triumph over de Minaur, following their previous encounter at the 2022 French Open.

 

In his post-match comments, Gaston acknowledged the tight competition, praising de Minaur as a formidable opponent. He highlighted the Australian’s impressive form, both this year and in previous seasons, adding significance to his hard-fought win.

 

Gaston now advances to the semifinals, where he will face Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut. Bautista Agut earned his spot after a thrilling three-set victory against third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, overcoming the Canadian 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8/6).
