Taylor Fritz continued his impressive run at the Mubadala Citi DC Open with a swift victory over Jordan Thompson in the quarter-finals. After a three-hour win against Andy Murray earlier on Friday, Fritz defeated Thompson 6-3, 6-3 in less than half the time. This win extended his winning streak to seven matches, all on home soil, including his recent Atlanta title run.
Fritz's strategy of being aggressive from the start paid off, as he earned early breaks in both sets, allowing him to control the match. He saved the only two break points he faced and has been excellent on serve throughout the tournament, saving 18 of 19 break points so far.
Next up, Fritz will face 12th seed Tallon Griekspoor in the semi-finals. A win in that match would move him ahead of Casper Ruud in the Pepperstone ATP Live Race To Turin rankings.
In the other semi-final, Grigor Dimitrov advanced via walkover against Ugo Humbert, who withdrew due to a left leg injury. Dimitrov will face ninth seed Daniel Evans, who had an impressive win over local favorite Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals.
Evans played brilliant and attacking tennis to secure the win, breaking Tiafoe's serve in the opening game of both sets. Despite the support from the D.C. crowd, Evans held his nerve and saved four of five break points in the match, ultimately serving out the match for a well-deserved victory.
