French Open 2023: Ruud advances to French Open quarter-finals, facing Rune or Cerundolo
Posted : 05 June 2023
Casper Ruud, the fourth seed, survived a difficult test against a hot Nicolas Jarry to get to the French Open quarterfinals.
The unseeded Chilean put a lot of pressure on Ruud, the 2022 runner-up at Roland Garros.
The 24-year-old Norwegian, however, prevailed in straight sets, 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 7-5, by winning crucial games at crucial times.
In the round of eight, Ruud will either face Holger Rune or Francisco Cerundolo.
Before this year, Jarry had lost three first-round matches at Roland Garros and had never won a match there. However, he proved to be a far tougher opponent for Ruud than a straight-set loss would imply.
Ruud subsequently prevailed in a first set tie-break that Jarry's shot selection let him down in on several occasions as his expertise on the big stage paid off.
