Frances Tiafoe Stopped Cameron Norrie's Run in The Quarterfinals
Posted : 09 April 2023
The Indian Wells tournament for British number one Cameron Norrie came to an end as he lost to American Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals after making numerous mistakes.
The 2021 champion, Norrie, performed far below his potential and lost to the 14th seed, a 25-year-old, 6-4, 6-4.
The 10th seed, Norrie, 27, committed 28 unforced errors and at times appeared uncharacteristically flat.
"I'm disappointed," Norrie said. "It was a big opportunity for me looking at the names left in the draw."
He added: "I felt I had a really good chance to win another Indian Wells but, on the day, today Frances was better than me, and that's the sport."
In the semifinal, Tiafoe will face Daniil Medvedev of Russia, the fifth seed.
Last year, he advanced to the US Open semifinals, but this is the first time he has advanced to the final four of a Masters 1000 competition.
"It is big," he said. "I'm super happy about today.
"I have been playing really well all week. I am happy being here."
Although rain in the desert delayed the start of the game, Tiafoe was clearly the superior player once the wind picked up.
After Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu lost on Tuesday, the British singles' interest in Indian Wells, one of the most well-known tournaments outside of the Grand Slams, is over
