Three former world No. 1 players, Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka, and Caroline Wozniacki, have been granted wild cards into the main draw of Wimbledon next month, announced by tournament organizers on Wednesday. Kerber, despite her current ranking at 224th due to a maternity break, boasts a Wimbledon title in 2018 and was runner-up in 2016. Osaka and Wozniacki, who also returned from maternity breaks, collectively hold five Grand Slam titles.
Osaka, showing recent form by reaching the quarterfinals of the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, has advanced to Wimbledon's third round twice. Meanwhile, Wozniacki has reached the last 16 at Wimbledon on six occasions. Local contender Emma Raducanu, a former US Open champion who faced a lengthy hiatus recovering from wrist and ankle surgeries, secured a wildcard with a current world ranking of 165th.
Joining Raducanu, Britain's Fran Jones, Lily Miyazaki, and Heather Watson have also received wildcards for the women's singles. On the men's side, all wild card recipients hail from Britain, prominently featuring Liam Broady among others. One remaining wildcard is yet to be assigned for both the men's and women's draws, keeping the field open for further announcements.
