Following Carlos Alcaraz's Defeat at the Miami Open, Novak Djokovic Reclaims Top Spot

Following Carlos Alcaraz's defeat by Jannik Sinner in the Miami Open semifinals, Novak Djokovic will reclaim the top spot in the world rankings on Monday.
Alcaraz lost against Sinner 6-7 6-4 6-2. Sinner was the opponent Alcaraz had beaten in the Indian Wells semifinals earlier this month on his way to winning that California event and taking the top spot in the rankings.
Sinner will now compete against Daniil Medvedev, who defeated fellow Russian Karen Khachanov 7-6 3-6 6-3 to go to his fifth straight ATP final, becoming him the first person to do so since Ivan Lendl in 1981.
"I feel something different about the crowd when I play against Jannik. I think around the world is probably all the people watching this match because I think it's really beautiful to watch." Alcaraz told reporters
To maintain his lead over Djokovic, who has skipped the American swing due to his immunization status, the Spaniard needed to convincingly defend his Miami Open title.
Alcaraz further said: "I don't think about that I lost the number one, I lost the Sunshine Double.
"Of course, it's a shame, but I think I'm going to have more years to try to get it (win Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back). But all I can think about is to improve my level to beat Jannik."
Djokovic hasn't played tennis in the US since 2021, but after the Senate voted to eliminate Covid-19 measures, he will be eligible to compete at the US Open in August and September.
