Felix Auger-Aliassime, Madison Keys Reach Adelaide International Finals

Posted : 11 January 2025

Felix Auger-Aliassime secured his spot in the Adelaide International final after a hard-fought 7-6 (7/3), 3-6, 6-4 victory over Tommy Paul, a match that required four match points and nearly three hours of play. The Canadian's win marked his 16th career final and placed him one match away from claiming his sixth title.

Auger-Aliassime will now face either second seed Sebastian Korda or Miomir Kecmanovic in the final. Despite the win, the match was a challenging one, marred by over 90 unforced errors, and Auger-Aliassime struggled to close out a straight-sets win after Paul rallied in the second set.

The match was a test of both physical and mental endurance for Auger-Aliassime, who reflected on the challenging nature of the contest, acknowledging the many ups and downs.

"It was not the best level from either of us, but sometimes matches are like that, you have to find a way through," Auger-Aliassime said after the victory. His triumph kept American Tommy Paul from achieving a career milestone, as the loss denied him the chance to break into the top 10 of the ATP rankings.

In the women’s draw, Madison Keys advanced to the final after a 5-7, 7-5, 3-0 win over Liudmila Samsonova, who was forced to retire in the third set due to injury. This marks Keys’ second final appearance at Memorial Drive, having previously won the Adelaide title in 2022.

Despite not winning in the ideal fashion, Keys expressed her satisfaction with staying resilient throughout the match, especially as Samsonova played strongly in the early stages. Keys will face either top seed Jessica Pegula or Kazakh Yulia Putintseva in the final.
