Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu advanced to her first semifinal since 2022 after Fran Jones withdrew from their Nottingham Open quarterfinal due to a shoulder injury. Raducanu, the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam singles title at the US Open in 2021, was initially scheduled to face Jones in the grass-court tournament.
Jones, who was set to play Raducanu after a rain delay postponed their match on Friday, announced her withdrawal on Saturday due to her injury. Consequently, Raducanu, at 21 years old, will now prepare to take on defending champion Katie Boulter in an all-British clash in the semifinals later the same day, marking a significant moment in the warm-up event for Wimbledon.
Expressing disappointment at having to withdraw, Jones highlighted the importance of considering her health with major events upcoming. She emphasized the need to focus on the bigger picture, especially considering her recent progress, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete at a high level despite the setback.
