Emma Raducanu Advanced to The Fourth Round After Outlasting 13th-Seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil
Posted : 09 April 2023
After overcoming 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-1 2-6 6-4 on Monday, Emma Raducanu advanced to the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The Brazilian leveled the match by winning the second set 6-2. The British No. 1 started out strong, breaking twice, and quickly won the opening set in 34 minutes.
However, she then dropped her serve twice and double-failed four times.
The world no. 77 then played some outstanding tennis to break in the seventh game after Raducanu survived a break point to keep the score at 2-2 in the decider.
Haddad Maia forced her to serve the game out when she created two more break opportunities, which the 2021 US Open winner deservedly converted.
In the round of 16, Raducanu will now take against current world number one, Iga Swiatek, or Bianca Andreescu.
