Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina announced her withdrawal from the Olympic tennis tournament on Thursday, following a similar decision by men's world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Rybakina, who was initially included in the draw at Roland Garros, saw her name removed by the organizers, paving the way for France's Caroline Garcia to take her place.
Garcia will now face Jaqueline Cristian of Romania in the tournament, stepping into the slot previously occupied by Rybakina. Additionally, Daria Saville from Australia has been promoted to compete against China's seventh-ranked Zheng Qinwen.
Sinner, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, also withdrew from the Games due to tonsillitis. His decision was announced on Wednesday, adding to the list of notable players missing the event.
