Elena Rybakina Defeats Aryna Sabalenka to Win Women's title

By defeating Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets to win the Indian Wells championship, Elena Rybakina exacted revenge on herself for losing the Australian Open championship match.
Rybakina, a Wimbledon winner from Kazakhstan, won the match 7-6 (13-11) 6-4 to earn her first WTA 1000 victory after a 78-minute opening set.
She has now defeated the world number two once in five tries.
Sabalenka, a Belarussian, defeated Rybakina in three sets in Melbourne in January to win her first Grand Slam.
Sabalenka had only lost one set on the way to her third appearance in the Indian Wells final, but when Rybakina, the 10th seed, put pressure on her, her serving woes from the previous season returned, resulting in 10 double faults in the first set alone.
The primary ambition for Rybakina is to be ranked number one in the world. Last year, Wimbledon was penalized for barring Russian and Belarusian competitors, thus she was denied 2,000 ranking points for her victory.
