Draw Revealed for WTT Champions Macao 2024

Posted : 07 September 2024

The draw for the WTT Champions Macao 2024, presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, revealed the match-ups for the Men’s and Women’s Singles events on Saturday afternoon. Top-seed Sun Yingsha, who previously won the title at the 2022 event, will begin her campaign against Jeon Jihee. Sun enters the tournament with high expectations, but Jeon is set to challenge her for the first time, potentially disrupting Sun’s return to title-winning form in Macao.

Former ITTF Women’s World Cup champion Zhu Yuling, making her professional comeback in Macao, faces Natalia Bajor in her WTT debut. The winner of this match will proceed to play either Bernadette Szocs or defending champion Wang Manyu, who are set to clash in a highly anticipated opening match. Wang Yidi, seeking her second WTT Champions title, will start against Mo Zhang, with Adriana Diaz and Bruna Takahashi also positioned in the same quarter.

In other notable matchups, Chen Xingtong and Miu Hirano will compete in an intriguing opener, with the victor advancing to face either Amy Wang or Linda Bergstrom. Additionally, Prithika Pavade and Jia Nan Yuan will meet in an All-French clash, while Manika Batra and Miyuu Kihara are set to face off for the second time following their 2022 encounter.

On the Men’s Singles side, reigning champion Wang Chuqin is set to meet Wong Chun Ting in the round of 32, aiming for a third consecutive Macao title. Dimitrij Ovtcharov, a potential opponent in the last 16, must first overcome Xu Yingbin, who is making his debut at this level. Japanese stars Tomokazu Harimoto and Sora Matsushima will clash, while Lin Yun-Ju and Jonathan Groth are set for a rematch after their previous meeting in WTT Champions Incheon. Truls Moregard will renew his rivalry with Shunsuke Togami, and Liang Jingkun faces a first-time encounter with Edward Ly, alongside a debut showdown between Simon Gauzy and Kirill Gerassimenko.
