Novak Djokovic expressed his displeasure with a group of British fans following Serbia's Davis Cup win over Great Britain in the quarter-finals. After defeating Cameron Norrie 6-4 6-4 and securing a 2-0 victory for Serbia, Djokovic addressed the noisy British supporters during his post-match interview. Pointing towards the group, he sternly advised them to "learn how to respect players and behave yourselves" in response to continued chants and noise.
Despite the jubilant celebrations from the Serbian team, a section of British fans persisted in making noise during Djokovic's interview, prompting his strong reaction. Djokovic, known for his competitive spirit, had earlier blown sarcastic kisses towards the British fans after winning the opening set. GB captain Leon Smith downplayed the incident, emphasizing the positive aspect of fans creating an atmosphere in Davis Cup matches.
Smith acknowledged that noise and comments are part of the team competition, stating, "There is a bit that goes over [the top], comments, I could hear a couple. I would hate to see it quietening down because there's enough quiet tennis as it is." Djokovic, reflecting on the situation, acknowledged the normalcy of fans sometimes crossing the line in the Davis Cup. Despite the initial outburst, he later mentioned, "They can do whatever they want, but I'm going to respond to that. At the end, I was trying to talk, and they were purposely starting to play the drums and trying to annoy me the entire match. So we had a little bit of a chat in the end."
