Djokovic Finds Emotional Support from Brother at Monte Carlo Masters

Posted : 07 April 2025

Novak Djokovic shared that having his brother Marko with him at the Monte Carlo Masters will provide emotional support during the tournament. Djokovic, who is aiming for his 100th ATP Tour singles title, is competing without his coach Andy Murray, as the Briton is expected to return for the Madrid Open later in April.

Djokovic noted that although working with Murray wasn't part of the plan for this week, having his brother by his side helps on an emotional level, allowing him to spend quality time with family while on the road.

The 37-year-old Serbian, who reached his first final of the season at the Miami Open in March, is looking to regain his form after not winning a singles title since the 2023 ATP Tour Finals. Djokovic also dealt with a swollen eye and a mild viral infection during the Miami final, but he mentioned that his condition was improving as the Monte Carlo event approached.

Despite these challenges, Djokovic is focused on finding joy on the court and aiming to peak later in the clay season, with the Monte Carlo Masters serving as a key starting point for his preparations.

Meanwhile, world number three Carlos Alcaraz is preparing for his clay-court season debut in Monte Carlo, where he won the French Open last year. Alcaraz acknowledged the external pressure to take over as world number one following Jannik Sinner's doping ban, which has affected his recent form.

However, Alcaraz emphasized that he is no longer focusing on the rankings and instead aims to play freely, confident that the number one spot is out of his reach for now. With his mindset shifted, Alcaraz is focused solely on performing well during the clay season.
