De Minaur ends Tsitsipas jinx with spectacular comeback in Acapulco

In a remarkable turnaround, defending champion Alex De Minaur secured his first-ever victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, breaking a 10-match losing streak against the Greek player.

 

Tsitsipas dominated the first set with a 6-1 lead, but De Minaur, seeded third, mounted a comeback, claiming a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph.

 

The Australian will now face Britain's Jack Draper in the semifinals of the ATP hardcourt tournament in Acapulco. Despite Draper's convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Miomir Kecmanovic, it will be De Minaur's newfound momentum that adds intrigue to their upcoming clash.

 

De Minaur, still basking in the glow of his recent runner-up finish in Rotterdam, expressed satisfaction in breaking the pattern against Tsitsipas.

 

The fifth-seeded Greek had initially broken De Minaur three times in the first set, but the Australian retaliated with resilience, showcasing his determination to secure the victory.

 

Reflecting on his breakthrough, De Minaur acknowledged Tsitsipas' historical dominance over him and expressed relief at finally getting a win on the board.
