Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova propelled the Czech Republic into the Billie Jean King semi-finals by securing a critical doubles victory over the USA. They defeated Danielle Collins and Taylor Townsend 6-3, 7-5, claiming the tie 2-1 and setting up a clash with Canada.
Meanwhile, Slovenia, competing in their maiden semi-final appearance, advanced despite a 2-1 loss to Kazakhstan in Group B. Their superior sets win-loss record propelled them to the semi-finals, where they'll face Group D winners Italy.
The women's team competition, formerly known as the Fed Cup, held four groups with only the group victors securing spots in Saturday's semi-finals. In a riveting clash between the Czech Republic and the USA, the Czech team leveled the tie after Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova dominated 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, leading to a decisive doubles match.
The Czech duo, Krejcikova and Siniakova, secured the victory in a tense encounter, ultimately edging out the USA, thus securing their place in the semi-finals. On the other hand, Slovenia, though facing a loss in their last group match, celebrated a historic milestone by advancing to the semi-finals, a first for the team. Despite setbacks, this remarkable achievement marks a significant moment for Slovenia in the tournament.
