Coco Gauff is looking to "reset" and "refresh" after ending her 14-month partnership with coach Brad Gilbert. The 2023 US Open champion has brought in Matt Daly to work alongside her long-time coach, Jean-Christophe Faurel. Daly, who previously coached Canadian Denis Shapovalov, began working with Gauff ahead of the China Open, where she will face Clara Burel in her first match.
Gauff, currently ranked sixth in the world, expressed her excitement about the new coaching arrangement, stating that this is likely how her team will look next year. She hopes this change will help her improve various aspects of her game as she looks to build on her recent successes and prepare for the next season.
The decision to part ways with Gilbert came after Gauff’s recent performances, where she was knocked out in the last 16 at the US Open, Wimbledon, the Paris Olympics, and the WTA Toronto event. While she appreciated her time with Gilbert, she felt the need to make changes to ensure continued progress in the future.
