Coco Gauff Advances to Wimbledon Fourth Round with Dominant Win Over Sonay Kartal

Coco Gauff effortlessly advanced to the Wimbledon fourth round on Friday, defeating British qualifier Sonay Kartal 6-4, 6-0 with minimal resistance.

 

The US Open champion, who has reached at least the semifinals in the last three Grand Slams, broke Kartal's serve five times, matching her best performance at the All England Club.

 

Though the American world No. 2 faced some resistance in the first set against the world No. 298, she ultimately overpowered her lesser-known opponent, delivering 16 winners to Kartal's six and breezing through the second set in just 22 minutes without losing a game.

 

"This is my first time playing a British player here, so I was a little nervous because I knew you'd be for her, which is understandable," Gauff said. "Being an American, I know how it feels when I'm at the US Open. Thankfully, you guys (the crowd) were pretty nice to me, so that helped." Gauff, 20, who made her breakthrough at Wimbledon as a qualifier in 2019, will face compatriot Emma Navarro in the last 16.
