In a highly anticipated clash, top seed Carlos Alcaraz has earned a spot in the French Open semi-finals by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in a dominant manner. The 20-year-old Spaniard secured a resounding victory with a score of 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) against the Greek fifth seed.
Meanwhile, Serbia's Novak Djokovic, aiming for a record 23rd men's Grand Slam singles title, faced a challenging quarter-final against Karen Khachanov.
The 36-year-old Djokovic found himself in a precarious situation, at risk of falling two sets behind against the Russian. However, he showcased his resilience and emerged victorious with a score of 4-6, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-4.
As Djokovic aims to become the first man to win all four majors at least three times, he must overcome his toughest test yet in the upcoming semi-final against US Open champion Alcaraz.
This Friday's encounter promises to be a thrilling battle as both players vie for a spot in the tournament's final.
"This match is what everyone wants to watch and it will be a good one to play," said Alcaraz.
"If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. Djokovic is one of the best in the world and I'm looking forward to it."
With Rafael Nadal absent due to injury, both Djokovic and Alcaraz have emerged as top contenders to claim the 14-time champion's crown. Their impressive performances throughout the tournament solidify their status as joint favourites.
