Britain's Billy Harris and Lily Miyazaki have advanced to the second round of qualifying at the US Open. Harris, who made his Grand Slam main draw debut at Wimbledon in July, secured a hard-fought victory over Argentina's Juan Manuel Cerundolo with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Meanwhile, Miyazaki defeated Slovenia's Dalila Jakupovic 6-2, 6-4 to move forward. The 28-year-old Miyazaki had previously reached the main draw last year after winning three qualifying matches in New York.
In additional British successes, Jan Choinski progressed by overcoming Argentina's Pedro Cachin with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Francesca Jones also advanced after a closely contested match against Spain's Rebeka Masarova, winning 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (10-6). However, Oliver Crawford was eliminated following a 6-4, 6-4 loss to the USA's JJ Wolf.
The victorious quartet will join Heather Watson, Paul Jubb, and Sonay Kartal in the second round, all of whom secured wins on Monday. Watson is set to play against second seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Jubb will face Finland's Otto Virtanen, and Kartal will compete with Switzerland's Simona Waltert. Additionally, Jones will play against Japan's Ena Shibahara, while Choinski will take on Valentin Vacherot of Monaco, with both matches scheduled for Wednesday.
