ATP CEO Massimo Calvelli to Step Down in June After Five Years

Posted : 05 April 2025

Massimo Calvelli will step down as the chief executive of the ATP in June, a position he has held since January 2020. The ATP confirmed this decision on Friday, announcing that current chairman Andrea Gaudenzi would take on the additional responsibilities of CEO while the organization searches for a successor.

Calvelli expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the ATP over the past five years, highlighting the progress made during his tenure. He also acknowledged the support of his team, especially in navigating the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. During his leadership, Calvelli was instrumental in managing disruptions to the tennis calendar and ensuring the ATP's resilience during a difficult period.

One of Calvelli's key achievements was securing a significant multi-year partnership with Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund in 2024. However, his departure comes amid growing tensions in the tennis world, including legal actions from the Professional Tennis Players' Association (PTPA), which has raised concerns about the sport's governance, including the ATP's practices.
