Top seed Aryna Sabalenka continued her impressive form by securing her 15th consecutive victory, advancing to the quarterfinals of the China Open with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Madison Keys on Wednesday. The US Open champion has established herself as a dominant force this season, boasting the most match wins on tour.
In her match against Keys, the world No. 2 showcased her power and skill, initially trading breaks with the 24th-ranked American until she gained the upper hand at 3-3 in the first set. From there, Sabalenka seized control, ultimately taking the first set before maintaining her momentum in the second. Keys's double fault on the first match point sealed Sabalenka's victory in just 65 minutes.
Looking ahead, Sabalenka is set to face either Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic or Spain's Cristina Bucsa in the quarterfinals in Beijing. A potential semifinal matchup looms against China’s Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, who is scheduled to play Amanda Anisimova later in the day.
By claiming the title in Beijing, Sabalenka could make significant strides towards surpassing Iga Swiatek at the top of the world rankings. Notably, Swiatek is absent from the tournament due to personal reasons, leaving the door open for Sabalenka to capitalize on this opportunity.
