Aryna Sabalenka has expressed her exhaustion following her unexpected loss to Karolina Muchova at the French Open. Despite holding a 5-2 lead in the third set, Sabalenka was unable to maintain her advantage, and Muchova emerged victorious.
Sabalenka acknowledged feeling drained after the demanding two weeks she spent in Paris but emphasized that she did not view the tournament negatively, as she had surpassed her previous performance by reaching the semifinals.
In a press conference, the 25-year-old admitted to her fatigue, stating, "I believe I'm really exhausted right now. Losing this match was tough for me. It's normal to feel exhausted after continuously playing for two weeks on clay courts, where matches are physically demanding. Muchova played outstanding tennis. Although I had numerous opportunities, I failed to capitalize on them. I'm naturally disappointed by this challenging defeat, but that's alright. I'll learn from this match and return stronger.”
“Nonetheless, I consider my overall performance this season to be incredible, and I hope to maintain that level. I don't perceive this tournament negatively. I made significant progress on clay, achieving my best result here. Currently, I'm focused on staying positive, regardless of the outcome on the court. In any case, I will come back stronger. It was a tough match, but I had many chances, and I prefer to view this tournament in a positive light."
Looking ahead, Sabalenka is eagerly anticipating Wimbledon, which commences on July 3. Last year, she was unable to participate due to the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian players. Excitedly, Sabalenka revealed that her visa has been approved, allowing her to compete in London.
She expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "Yes, I now have my visa. I can celebrate! I am thrilled to be returning to Wimbledon this year. I enjoy playing there and cherish the atmosphere. I missed Wimbledon last year, and I can't wait to showcase my best tennis."
