Andy Murray withdraws from Cincinnati Open due to abdominal strain

Andy Murray, the renowned British tennis player, has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open in his efforts to recuperate and be fit for the upcoming US Open.
Despite his determination, the 36-year-old former world number one continues to grapple with the abdominal strain that compelled him to withdraw from the Canadian Open last week.
Murray had journeyed to Cincinnati with the hope of facing Karen Khachanov, but he will now be replaced by a fortunate player who gains entry through the lucky loser spot.
In a parallel scenario, fellow British player Dan Evans faced delays due to heavy rain in Cincinnati, resulting in the postponement of his first-round match against Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. This weather-related disruption contributed to the reshuffling of the schedule, and several matches are now slated to take place on Tuesday. Notably, only five matches were completed on the tournament's second day.
Both Murray and Evans were recently included in Britain's Davis Cup team for the forthcoming Finals group matches scheduled in Manchester for September. After missing the team's victory over Colombia in February, Murray is set to make his return. However, his immediate focus remains on participating in the US Open, which is set to commence on August 28th.
Having undergone hip resurfacing surgery in 2019, Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, currently holds a ranking of 36 in the world – his highest since the surgery. Unfortunately, his withdrawal from the Cincinnati Open means he will likely miss the opportunity to be seeded at the upcoming US Open.
