Andy Murray advanced to the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open with a solid 6-3, 7-5 victory over France's Hugo Grenier, marking a historic day for British tennis.
Murray's triumph was accompanied by a remarkable achievement on the women's side, as Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, and Jodie Burrage joined Heather Watson in the quarter-finals. This marked the first time that four British women reached the quarter-finals of the same WTA Tour event.
Among the standout performances, Burrage's 7-5, 6-3 win over world number 21 and Australian Open semi-finalist Magda Linette was particularly noteworthy.
Reflecting on the collective success of British players, Burrage, ranked 131st in the world, expressed how their achievements motivated one another. She stated, "When we are all performing well, it truly pushes everyone to excel. It can be a bit daunting to step on the court after witnessing the victories of Boulter and Dart. There is a bit of pressure, but at the same time, it also provides some support. Ultimately, when you're out there, your sole focus is on winning."
In her first-ever WTA quarter-final, the 24-year-old Burrage will face Poland's Magdalena Frech in the opening match on Centre Court on Friday. Following that, Boulter and Dart will compete against each other in an all-British quarter-final, ensuring that at least one home player will reach the semi-finals on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Watson, who secured her spot in the quarter-finals earlier in the tournament, is set to face Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic in the third match on Centre Court.
