Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will face fellow Briton Ryan Peniston in an intriguing first-round match. Despite not being seeded for the tournament, Murray was drawn against wildcard Peniston, ranked 267th in the world. The winner will have a challenging second-round encounter against Greek fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or Dominic Thiem.
The tournament, officially known as the 136th Championships, will commence at the All England Club on Monday. Serbia's Novak Djokovic, aiming to equal the record for 24 major titles and win his eighth Wimbledon title, starts against Argentina's Pedro Cachin. Djokovic is seeded second after being replaced as world number one by Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, who won the Queen's title and plays Jeremy Chardy in the opening round.
In the women's singles, defending champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan begins her title defense against American Shelby Rogers. Rybakina, seeded third, and Belarusian second seed Aryna Sabalenka find themselves in the same half of the draw, potentially setting up a clash in the semi-finals.
The bottom half of the draw features grass court specialists such as last year's finalist Ons Jabeur, two-time champion Petra Kvitova, 2021 runner-up Karolina Pliskova, and Brazilian 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Poland's Iga Swiatek, the top seed, will seek her fifth major title and has a relatively favorable path. She opens against China's Lin Zhu, while American seventh seed Coco Gauff, a potential quarter-final opponent for Swiatek, faces Sofia Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion who came through qualifying.
Another notable first-round match features American five-time champion Venus Williams against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, a semi-finalist in 2019.
