Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu, both prominent figures in British tennis, have secured a wildcard entry to compete together in the Wimbledon mixed doubles tournament, as confirmed by organizers on Wednesday. Murray, a two-time singles champion at Wimbledon, is participating in his final appearance at the tournament but withdrew from his singles match due to a back injury. He will also compete in the men's doubles alongside his brother Jamie, facing Australians Rinky Hijikata and John Peers in their opening round.
Raducanu, the former US Open champion at 21 years old, started her Wimbledon campaign with a singles victory over Renata Zarazua and is set to continue her singles journey against Elise Mertens. This marks Murray's return to the mixed doubles event since 2019, when he partnered with Serena Williams and reached the third round.
Despite his recent injury setback, Murray has showcased resilience since undergoing hip-resurfacing surgery in 2019, making a comeback that included memorable achievements. He previously hinted that this Wimbledon might be his last, with a possible final appearance at the Olympics in Paris next on his agenda, as the tennis competition starts on July 27.
