Andy Murray defeats Jurij Rodionov to win the grass-court championship

Andy Murray believes his decision to skip the French Open has been vindicated as he had the "perfect start" to his grass-court season, winning his first title on grass in seven years.
In the Surbiton Trophy final, Murray defeated Jurij Rodionov 6-3 6-2, although rain caused a three-hour delay during the match.
This victory marks Murray's first singles title on grass since his Wimbledon triumph in 2016. The 36-year-old dedicated the trophy to his four children, as they always request him to bring one home.
By choosing to forgo Roland Garros and concentrate on the grass-court season, Murray aimed to improve his world ranking of 43 and secure a seed at Wimbledon. This decision has proven fruitful, with back-to-back ATP Challenger titles, following his earlier win at Aix-en-Provence in May.
"I made the decision to play here and in Nottingham [next week] to accumulate as many matches as possible, and this week has been the perfect start," Murray expressed.
On the same day, Britain's Katie Swan lost a hard-fought battle in the women's final to Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, with a score of 2-6 6-4 7-6 (7-1). Swan, 24, had the opportunity to surpass the injured Emma Raducanu and become the British number one, but the match slipped away after two hours and 38 minutes.
