Anastasia Potapova stuns top-seed Jabeur, advances to San Diego Open quarterfinals

Anastasia Potapova pulled off a stunning victory at the Cymbiotika San Diego Open, defeating the top-seeded Ons Jabeur in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (4), to secure her spot in the quarterfinals. This marked Potapova's fourth win over a top-10 ranked player this year. She attributed her success to patience and focus, acknowledging Jabeur's challenging playing style.
 
Jabeur, who hails from Tunisia, struggled with her serve, landing only 39 of 85 first serves and committing nine double faults. Potapova expressed admiration for Jabeur, noting her mother's fondness for the Tunisian player. Despite their friendship, Potapova was content with her victory.
 
Maria Sakkari, the third seed from Greece, advanced to the next round when Colombian qualifier Camila Osorio retired due to a right thigh injury. Sakkari expressed sympathy for her injured opponent and wished her a swift recovery.
 
Caroline Garcia, the second seed, avenged a previous loss to Sloane Stephens by defeating her 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Garcia characterized the match as a "revenge day" and praised her ability to convert break-point opportunities.
 
Fourth-seeded Barbora Krejcikova overcame a bout of double faults to defeat Anhelina Kalinina 6-3, 6-2. Krejcikova acknowledged the difficulty of the first set but focused on staying aggressive to secure the win.
 
In an all-American clash, Sofia Kenin rallied from a set down to beat Katie Volynets 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Danielle Collins also triumphed with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jelena Ostapenko, and former University of Virginia standout Emma Navarro defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich 7-5, 6-4.
