Alcaraz Advances at Indian Wells with Convincing Win Over Shapovalov

Carlos Alcaraz continued his quest for a third consecutive Indian Wells ATP Masters title with a dominant 6-2, 6-4 victory over Denis Shapovalov. The world No. 3 from Spain made a blistering start, breaking Shapovalov in the opening game and racing to a 5-0 lead. Despite facing four break points, he saved three and converted four of his own, sealing the match in just 84 minutes with a decisive overhead shot.

 

Alcaraz acknowledged Shapovalov’s strong form this season but emphasized the importance of starting aggressively and maintaining focus. He aimed to establish his rhythm early, executing solid rallies to take control of the match. His strategy paid off, allowing him to dictate play and comfortably advance to the next round.

 

The 21-year-old is now aiming to join Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only players to win three consecutive Indian Wells titles. His next challenge will be against either Grigor Dimitrov or Gael Monfils, as he looks to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
