Yin Ruoning Clinches First Home LPGA Victory at Buick LPGA Shanghai

Yin Ruoning experienced a moment of pure exhilaration after achieving a spectacular final round of 64, which included six birdies on the back nine, securing her first LPGA victory in her home country at the Buick LPGA Shanghai. The 22-year-old native of Shanghai finished the tournament at an impressive 25-under par, thrilling the supportive hometown crowd after starting the day one stroke behind Japan's Mao Saigo.

 

Despite Saigo's effort of one-under 71, which placed her in a tie for second with South Korea's Kim Sei-young, who scored four-under 68, Yin's dominant performance left no doubt about her triumph. "It's amazing to be able to win at home," she expressed after her remarkable run on the closing nine holes. The atmosphere was electric, with fans passionately cheering her name, although Yin mentioned she was unable to find her mother amidst the large galleries.

 

At just 22 years old, Yin has now secured four LPGA victories, including a major title from last year's Women's PGA Championship. When asked about her future plans following the win, she playfully replied, "We'll see," indicating that she wanted to savour the moment with her mother before thinking about what's next.

 

In the earlier rounds, Kim Sei-young had led the tournament, showcasing her skills with an impressive 62 on Thursday. Yealimi Noh from the United States finished in fourth place with a final-round score of 67, expressing her satisfaction with her best finish of the year. Yin, the world No. 4, quickly erased Saigo's lead by making a birdie on the first hole and continued to build momentum, culminating in a joyous champagne celebration with the enthusiastic crowd as she secured her victory. "It gives me goosebumps when I think about it right now," Yin remarked, reflecting on the phenomenal energy of her fans.
