WTT Contender Antalya 2023: High stakes and top seeds set to shine
Posted : 16 October 2023
WTT Contender Antalya 2023 is set to kick off at the Gloria Sports Arena in Turkey, making it a significant moment as Turkey hosts its first WTT Series event. The tournament will run from October 16 to October 22. Players will be competing for a share of the $75,000 prize pool and 400 ITTF World Ranking Points.
In the Men's Singles category, Hugo Calderano, a standout in the WTT Series 2023, is the top seed. With three WTT Contender trophies this year and a strong performance in other WTT events, he sits at No. 5 in the Race to WTT Finals, making it likely that he will secure a spot in the end-of-year finale. Calderano is a dominant force in international table tennis and aims to further improve his world ranking.
On the Women's Singles side, Hina Hayata is leading the pack. She recently won her second WTT Contender title this year and has secured her place in WTT Finals Women Nagoya 2023. Winning back-to-back titles would be a great boost for her before heading to WTT Champions Frankfurt later this month.
Two wildcard players, Jia Nan Yuan and Bernadette Szocs, are also in the spotlight. Both are eager to make the most of this opportunity and compete for the title. Their performances in Antalya will be crucial in their quest to secure a spot in the Race to WTT Finals 2023, as time is running out for them to secure qualification. Marcos Freitas, with a wildcard in hand, is also eyeing a place at WTT Finals 2023, and his performance in Antalya will be pivotal in determining his qualification.
