Western Province Women Set to Open 2024/25 Season Against Free State Knights

The anticipation is building as the World Sports Betting Western Province Women prepare to kick off the 2024/25 season this weekend. The Girls in Blue will host the Free State Knights at WSB Newlands as part of the new and exciting Cricket South Africa Hollywoodbets Pro Series. Claire Terblanche’s team will launch the season with a Hollywoodbets Pro 50 match on Saturday, followed by a T20 clash on Sunday, both scheduled to start at 10 AM.

 

Head coach Terblanche expressed confidence in her team's readiness for the season opener, highlighting their impressive fitness and form. “It is a new season, and the team is looking really good. They’re strong, fit, and hitting the ball cleanly,” Terblanche stated. She noted the successful off-season and pre-season preparations, including a tour that helped evaluate their options and strategies. The aim is to play hard-hitting, intelligent cricket that excites both the team and spectators alike.

 

Emphasizing the significance of a strong start, Terblanche acknowledged the importance of performing well in their home game. “It’s crucial to kick off really well, especially with a home game. The Knights are a team that can surprise you, so we must remain focused,” she said. The team is committed to taking responsibility on every ball they face, bowl, and field, striving for a solid performance right from the start of the series.

 

With Hollywoodbets as the new tournament sponsor, Terblanche believes this partnership marks a positive development for women's cricket. “Having a tournament sponsor like Hollywoodbets creates a more professional atmosphere around our league,” she explained. The league's structure remains the same with 50-over and T20 formats, but the presence of a title sponsor adds a sense of pride and significance, making history in the women's cricket landscape.
