The Commissioner for Sports Development of Bayelsa State, Daniel Igali, has reiterated the state government's commitment to the development of Para sports in the country.
Igali made this statement in Yenagoa during the opening of a technical seminar themed "Upgrading the Capacity of Technical Officials in Para Athletics," organized by the Para-Athletics Federation of Nigeria in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Para Athletics Association.
He emphasized that Para sports have brought glory and honor to Nigeria and Bayelsa State in major events, ensuring their sustainability.
Igali also praised the Para Athletics Federation for its contribution to the development and promotion of Para sports in Nigeria through various developmental programs.
He stated, "We are pleased that this program is taking place in Bayelsa State, adding to the many other national events we have hosted this year."
"The Prosperity Government, under Governor Douye Diri, is deeply committed to our Para athletes, ensuring they receive all necessary support," he added.
"We are one of the few states that provide Para athletes with the same rewards for medals won in national and international tournaments as their able-bodied counterparts, and we will continue to do so."
Braveman Wodi, Director of Sports at the Bayelsa State Sports Council, also spoke at the event, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained from the seminar to enhance their understanding of the sport.
Wodi explained that the seminar's goal was to foster the growth and development of Para sports in Nigeria.
He emphasized that the seminar provided participants from across the country with an opportunity to learn and update their knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the sport.
"We are here to enhance the skills of technical officials nationwide, providing them with the necessary knowledge to participate in and officiate international championships," Wodi concluded.
