Vuelta a España 2026 Set to Begin in Monaco, Race Organizers Announce

The Vuelta a España, one of cycling's prestigious grand tour races, is set to kick off its 2026 edition from Monaco, as announced by race organizers on Thursday. The inaugural stage will be held entirely within Monaco's borders, with the city also hosting the departure for the second stage of La Vuelta 26, marking a significant start for the renowned race.

 

Monaco's selection as the starting point for the Vuelta a España adds to its illustrious cycling history, having previously hosted the Grand Depart of the 2009 Tour de France. This decision underscores the city's appeal as a premier destination for major cycling events and further enhances its reputation within the cycling community.

 

The Vuelta a España has a tradition of international starts, with Lisbon hosting the race's grand departure for the first time in 1997, a trend continuing with the upcoming edition. Past editions have seen the race commence from various locations, including the Netherlands and France, highlighting the global allure and diverse landscape traversed by this iconic event, which stands alongside the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia as one of cycling's premier competitions.
