Vincent Norrman wins Barbasol Championship, first PGA Tour title

Posted : 17 July 2023
The Barbasol Championship concluded with thrilling drama as Vincent Norrman emerged as the first-time winner on the PGA TOUR after a sudden-death playoff against Nathan Kimsey. Both players ended regulation tied at 22-under 266, but Norrman secured victory with a par on the par-4 18th hole. As the breakthrough champion, Norrman earned 300 FedExCup points and a substantial prize of $684,000.

Despite arriving at the tournament ranked 114th in the FedExCup standings, the 25-year-old Swedish rookie had shown promise with two top 10s and six top 25s in the second half of the season.

Nathan Kimsey, who was just +5500 to win, had a solid performance, but a bogey on the playoff hole cost him the victory. The 30-year-old Englishman had been in limited action since undergoing wrist surgery in April but showcased his talent at the Barbasol Championship.

Trevor Cone, another rookie, began Sunday with a one-stroke lead but couldn't hold on to it. Despite an impressive performance that included seven birdies, he stumbled on the par-3 16th with a double bogey, ultimately finishing in a tie for third place with Adrien Saddier. Cone had been considered a longshot with odds of +12500 to win, but his performance throughout the tournament was memorable.

Lucas Glover, who led the leaderboard after the first two rounds, settled for a solo fifth-place finish. His hot start made him a notable contender with odds of +2000, second only to Taylor Pendrith (+1400), who finished in sixth place. The Barbasol Championship showcased intense competition and a field of talented players, making it an exciting event for golf enthusiasts.

Vincent Norrman clinched his first PGA Tour victory in a thrilling finish at the Barbasol Championship. The Tour rookie sunk an 8-footer for bogey on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Nathan Kimsey. In sudden death, Norrman held his nerve and scrambled for par on the same hole to secure the title.

The 25-year-old Swede closed with a final-round 66, finishing at an impressive 22-under 266 at Keene Trace Golf Club. Kimsey, a 30-year-old DP World Tour player from England, shot a remarkable 64 to also post 22 under and wait for the outcome.

Trevor Cone, who held a one-shot lead entering the final round, faltered with a double bogey on the par-3 16th, opening the door for Norrman. Cone finished one shot shy of the playoff, tied with Adrian Saddier, a DP World Tour player from France.

Veteran Lucas Glover, who led in the first two rounds, finished alone in fifth place at 20 under, extending his streak of rounds in the 60s to 12 since switching to a long putter.

Norrman's sensational performance featured six birdies on the front nine, turning in an impressive 6-under 30. Despite an even-par inward nine, his consistency throughout the four days with rounds of 66-67-67-66 sealed his victory at the Barbasol Championship.
